Soccer Cake and cupcakes

So, a friend of a friend, Mia, asked me to make a soccer cake and a bunch of cupcakes to transport for her son's first birthday party. I enjoyed making this one, it was so fun to use my grass tip. I had purchased it a while ago for another cake, but ran out of time to use it, so it's been sitting for a while.
I made four dozen cupcakes, with soccer balls, jerseys, and little soccer cleats all sitting on grass. The cake was made from a star shaped pan and a soccer ball pan, and it was covered with fondant and decorated with paint, gumpaste letters, and grass frosting. So cute!

Happy birthday Matias!!

Sushi Cake for Julie

My daughter's friend, Julie, had been requesting a sushi cake for her birthday for a while, and when her birthday rolled around, she somehow forgot all about it. So, I thought it'd be cool to surprise her with a cake for her birthday, and my daughter helped me make it. She painted the seaweed, and things inside the california rolls, and filled them with little white sprinkles to simulate the rice.

Happy Birthday Julie!! Hope you liked the cake !!

Sewing Machine Cake

My mom's birthday is April 21, and she's an avid quilter. So, I thought it'd be fun to make a sewing machine cake. Now, I have pretty close to zero structural engineering skills, so the cake almost came crashing down, and it probably would have, if it weren't for my lovely assistant holding it while I drove to moms.
And, instead of putting "Singer" where the logo would go, I put our last name, just thought it was kinda funny.
Next time I make this cake I think I will implement the use of wooden dowels and power tools, because that's the only way it seems possible to have this cake be structurally sound. And I say "next time" because I am now determined to make a better version.
Anyway, I think it turned out really cute, especially for being created off the cuff without any pre planning. Four cakes in one weekend will do that to ya!

Happy Birthday Mom !!!

**~Willy Wonka~**

This was such a fun cake to make. A friend of a friend threw her daughter a very awesome 16th birthday party, and the theme was the original Willy Wonka movie. It was a surprise, so when I delivered the cake we hid it at Grandma's house, and I didn't get to see the birthday girl's reaction. But her mom loved it, which was great. The Oompah Loompah was made out of sculpey, and the letters and 16 on top of the hat were made out of gumpaste, as well as the little flag and rail and top thingee on the boat.

Happy Birthday Laurel !!
